Until the recent times treatment of infertility was quite mythical and often magical, resulting in the childlessness of the majority of infertile couples. The appearance of artificial insemination technique, which most often involves the injection of sperm into a woman's uterus, became an undeniable progress. At first artificial insemination was held with “raw” sperm and women during the procedure often experienced a painful shock, and as a consequence - an inflammation of internal genital organs. Over time artificial insemination has become more sophisticated and effective: specialists began to conduct it along with ovulation stimulation, to control the ultrasound and make sperm tests of donor sperm etc. However, a breakthrough in the treatment of infertility was in vitro fertilization.
